Animals: New Species is one of the best Nintendo Switch games , and it took the world by storm in early 2020 for good reason. It was the next installment in Nintendo's slow life simulator and had a complete release window with life as we know it on hold. It's a game with a world that can take years and years to build, and as a result the islands people create can have sentimental value. If you have a new Nintendo Switch, then be careful when transferring your Animal Crossing save data. For context, I recently purchased an OLED version of the Nintendo Switch to upgrade the Switch during its initial year. I wanted a better screen, better battery life, and I definitely wanted to carry all my data with me.
When setting up the Nintendo Switch OLED, it asked me if I C Level Executive List wanted to transfer my data from my old Switch. "Of course I will," I thought. I chose to transfer my profile information and it asked me if I intended to use the old Switch, which I didn't. As Nintendo advises , once the transfer is complete, my user account will be removed from the old device. "Once the process is complete, the user's data, associated backup data, and software purchased with the user's account that is transferred are no longer available on the source system." I found it to be good and I transferred my data. I downloaded all my games again, including Animal Crossing , but to my surprise, my save data was missing. It's one of the few games I've bought digitally because I felt it made sense to sit in my device storage forever rather than changing carts. After all, I often only play it for a few minutes.
After I started it, I was greeted with the game's intro sequence and asked for my name and other information to set up my internal profile. Researching what could be the reason, I found out that Nintendo has said in the past that since the Animal Switch is saving files to a Switch, not for each account, the transfer of user data profile does not work, and a special tool is needed to do it. had to download from the eShop. It also says so on the official data transfer support page. Here's the problem: if you Google the transfer of data from one Switch to another, Nintendo will inform users that the Animal Switch data cannot be transferred in this way, but nowhere in the transfer process itself is mentioned. I'm not alone in this situation, as other users on reddit also faced the same problem and thought that their data was lost forever.
